I had a unique opportunity yesterday to share knowledge about being prepared with a Brownie troop! They were an energetic group of ladies who were eager to learn and share their experiences.
The presentation included information on how we, as citizens, are very critical to emergency response. We talked about why it is important to mentally prepare for disasters and emergencies and what disasters and emergencies we should prepare for. We also talked about the various ways we can prepare and keep our families safe including talking through and preparing a plan and assembling an emergency kit.
I brought in my families emergency kit to share with the girls which included nine empty milk cartons to symbolize how much water should be in the kit for a family of three. They were surprised!
There is a lot of information out there to help you get prepared. Here are a couple of the sites I used. I encourage you to get your family prepared for both natural disasters and household emergencies.

I look forward to having more opportunities like this in the future. Please email me if you have a group that would be interested in learning more about how to "Be Prepared."
Event Background Information
I was offered this great opportunity by a client of mine who participated in Life: Organized's Preparedness Event on Facebook in September. Throughout the month, we shared tips and ideas to get your family prepared for natural disasters. We also talked about preparing an emergency plan and shared information about building a kit. As you may or may not know, September is declared National Preparedness Month by FEMA and NAPO has teamed up to spread awareness. Next year, Life: Organized plans on expanding the event.
