Often, I see a pile of backpacks, coats and shoes by the door and frustration in the eyes. This is a quick and easy solution that almost everyone could find space for.
Coat racks like these are easily found at big box retailers, second hand stores, or better yet your very own garage. Often, clients have something like this, but just have it in the wrong place in their home. (Remember, one of the keys to organizing is to keep things where they are used, needed or stored! So in this case, keeping the coats, bags and shoes by the door will keep them from ending up all over the house, but in order to make it work you will need a system!)
Once you locate the rack you would like to use, adjust the height so that everyone in the house can reach it to hang up their coats and bags. Remember, you can not expect the toddler to help if they can not reach it. Years from now, you can always adjust the height, or if you want to put up two rows of hooks that is even better! (If you install two rows of hooks I would suggest simple hooks without a shelf for the bottom row.)
Once your hooks are installed, you can personalize with shelves, calendars, art, you name it! Have the family contribute to the plan and maybe you can get them on board with the process in the infancy stages!
